Little Red Riding Hood Party

November 18, 2013

Olivia is FIVE!  Still loving fairy tales, but we did a Cinderella princess party last year, so a Little Red Riding Hood party sounded fun this time around.  Into the woods we go!

Lots of butcher paper here (an inexpensive party staple in my opinion!).  Simple paper trees gave a cozy forest feeling to the party (and they will be fun to use at Christmas!).  Brown paper became the forest floor, scattered with big green paper leaves and red placemats.  Little fabric ornaments from my Christmas tree collection added whimsy to the back of each chair.

Wooden baskets of animal shaped cookies, glowing candles, and tea cups filled with pine cones added to the feeling of being in the woods.  Little bowls of pretzels for something salty, plus they seem old-world enough to be part of a fairy tale, don't you think?  The spotted plates remind me of spotted mushrooms from storybooks, and I couldn't resist these birch printed straws.  Little fabric ornaments from my Christmas tree collection added whimsy to the back of each chair.

Black forest cake ... sounds appropriate for Little Red Riding Hood, right?  Green coconut (toss shredded coconut in a bowl with coloring),  paper trees (cut out and tape to toothpicks) and a tiny "Grandmother's house" brought this cake to life!  It was almost too cute to eat.  Almost.  Same with the gingerbread and sugar cookies.  Yum!

Party favors ... little "Grandmother's House" boxes full of small French butter cookies for each guest. {Click here for the house template, so cute!}

Wolf masks!  EASIEST. PARTY CRAFT. EVER.  Rip up a pile of grey paper, cut out some white and black circles for eyes and noses, and some grey ears.  Let the kids go to town with glue and you're done!

It's not a Little Red Riding Hood party without a wolf!  My husband does such a great job on the face painting at parties.  So happy to have him help out!

Face painting makes any party so much more fun!  Thanks to Clayton and his skills. :) Then Nina helped out by reading one of our favorite versions of the story to the girls before Olivia blew out the candles.  Happy birthday Liv!

Hello! I'm Heather. Illustrator, writer, photographer and mom of five.  I also love to plan a good party!

Gosh I miss that tall blond kid!

While he was in the MTC (missionary training center) last year, there happened to be a distant relative in his district (third cousin once removed I think). My mom had told Ben to look for Elder David Keller but I t I’m hosting a “Midsummer Garden Party" watercolor workshop! Next Thursday, June 25th at 7:00 pm in Sandy. Come learn how to design and paint your very own floral wreath! $45 reserves your spot and covers all supplies. Space is limite RENOVATION UPDATE! πŸ‘πŸ”¨Yes, there are windows missing on my house at the moment. πŸ˜³πŸ˜‚ After sanding several deck boards, we discovered that a huge section of the support joists were rotted. Then as Clayton started removing those, he discovered that t “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actu I’m gonna go out on a limb here (pun intended) and say that there’s nothing Clayton and my dad can’t do! Especially with climbing gear + chainsaws. 🌲πŸͺ“#myveryowncharlesingalls #dadstrailworkskillscominginhandy #nowourviewisevenmore Olivia’s mask wins! πŸ˜·πŸ˜‚ Most people busted up laughing when they saw her, others just stared with a little smile on their faces, and others jumped out of their shoes and put their hands on their hearts 😱 (and then they laughed). One guy gave We’ve had such a warm welcome to our new neighborhood. I love the people here already! There are many who have lived here 40-50+ years and are just the sweetest. One neighbor named Cheryl (who has lived here since 1974!) showed up at our door w Well hello!! πŸ‘‹πŸ» It’s been a few weeks but I’m alive! πŸ˜† We are loving the new place + are finally feeling a bit more settled (although there are still a few unopened boxes!). .
Even though we did a yard sale and several trips to the DI My father-in-law’s greenhouse. 😍 He sent me home with hanging geraniums, tomato + cucumber plants for Mother’s Day! πŸŒ±πŸ…πŸ₯’❀️ BEST. ROOMIES. EVER!!! Erika and JJ, you are GEMS. I don’t know how to repay you for letting us stay with you for the last 2 1/2 months while we’ve been in between houses ... your generosity has truly touched our hearts!! πŸ˜β€οΈπŸ™πŸ» Thanks MOVING WEEK!! // Seven months ago we listed our house where we lived for sixteen years, with no idea where we were going. It sounds crazy, but we just felt it was time for a new chapter ... and here is where we are finally landing!
